A Researcher

I’ve never been a good reader, but because I was always a smart and determined kid, the adults in my life didn’t notice. It was only until I started college when I realized the severity of the problem. Struggling through a dense psychology reading in the late hours of night, I watched letters tilt as if they were caught in a stormy ocean’s waves. After nearly two years trying to understand what was happening, I got diagnosed with ADHD and an eye condition called exophoria. They’re both mild, but strong enough to have made me always feel different from my peers.

It made me think about how many other people must be going through the same thing as me, slipping through the cracks and never fully understanding themselves. I started working closely with Wellesley’s accessibility department, and immersing myself into cognitive psychology after realizing that how humans read is much more complicated than I thought.
